BACKSTORY

The album cover of the Beatles' 1967 record Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band features a Metepec "Tree of Life" and was the inspiration for the this striking architectural concept design. An exciting and colorful exterior with layering of textures and patterns are a metaphor for the highly intricate and decorative local arts and crafts. The design uses a dramatic relief of fritted glass which is punctuated with a huge front glazed picture frame to provide views into a dynamic retail environment. The corner is opened to encourage user access with a desert cactus garden to complement the mini outdoor plaza. The project incorporates environmental characteristics and is seeking LEED certification.
